Traditional Braces

braces

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common orthodontic appliance; metal brackets are used with wires to straighten teeth.

Tooth-Colored Braces

Ceramic brackets are tooth-colored so they are less noticeable; a thin metal wire is still used, but it in combination with the tooth-colored brackets, the results are very pleasing to the eye.

What’s the right age to start braces?

We recommend evaluation for braces at around age 7. Several conditions such as severe over or under bite are easier to correct when we can guide the growth of the jaw at a young age to help fix “bite” problems. There are a number of minor orthodontics problems that can be fixed at any time. Most children start braces when the majority of the adult teeth are erupted, at about age 12.

Am I too old for braces?

Nobody is too old to enhance their appearance or improve how the feel about themselves!

How long do I have to wear braces?

The amount of time required for braces depends on the orthodontic problem.  Typical treatment time usually falls between 1 and 3 years.
