Advantages of CEREC
- Crowns, onlays and veneers in one appointment; you get them the same day, so you save time! Dental labs take 2 or more weeks to fabricate a crown, onlay or veneer. This can commonly lead to slight changes in bite and tooth position. The restoration then has to be re-adjusted to fit properly. Lengthy adjustments are much less common with CEREC due to accuracy of the digital impression, and not having to use a temporary restorations for 2 weeks.
- With one appointment, you save money in gas and time off work required to get your dental treatment done.
- Your dental impression is saved on a computer. If your restoration fails or cracks any time in the future, another can be made quickly before you come into the office so you save time in the future.
Is a CEREC restoration as strong as a lab made restoration?
They are very close. A very common porcelain used today is called Emax. When made with CEREC, Emax is rated at 360 mpa strength. A lab made Emax is rated at 400 mpa strength. This is a very small difference when you compare the strength of older traditional porcelain at only 160 mpa. As a staff, we choose CEREC restorations for ourselves.
